Often, we can be a little harsh to beginners and their work, especially when we see their images online with no reference or context as to how long they’ve been shooting. But would we be as harsh if we looked back at our own work from when we were just starting out? After all, none of us were great from the first day. That’s what photographer Michael Sasser puts to the test in this video where he looks back on his early images from when he started shooting boudoir over a decade ago....

As /u/somebodytoshove tells it, the files seem to upload, but then when you actually look at the files listed, they’re only 4-megabytes in size – much smaller than they should be if they contained all the original raw data. Here’s a typical quick interior shoot for a Swiss brand called VIU Eyewear. They contacted me to create three images for their website/social networks. The only rule was to stay in the same style than their other images on their “Stores” page (something very simple, white and luminous with an emphasis on the store interior design). There has been a rumor going around that Ricoh will stop using Pentax brand name because it will lose the right to it. However, Ricoh has denied the rumor, saying that it will continue to use the Pentax brand when it comes to the camera business. Samyang has today announced their new wide-angle 14mm T3.1 VDSLR Mk2 lens, expanding their cine lens lineup to a total of five. It joins the 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5 to round out the set quite nicely. As with the others, the new 14mm T3.1 VDSLR Mk2 lens is available in seven different lens mounts and offers full-frame coverage. The new Samyang VDSLR Mk2 14mm T3....

In a press release today, Samyang Optics (also sold under the names Rokinon and Bower) have announced two new lenses designed for Sony full frame mirrorless cameras, marking their debut into the autofocus lens market. Having thus far limited themselves to manual focus lenses, today brings us the Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS IF UMCAF and Samyang 14mm f/2.8 UMCAF autofocus lenses, offering both “standard” and very wide angle views....

Samyang has launched a new lens simulator on the Samyang website. Its purpose, as one would suggest, is a way for potential lens buyers to check out how a particular focal length and aperture of a given lens might work on their own camera. It offers a wide range of focal lengths from an ultra-wide 10mm all the way up to 300mm as well as apertures ranging from f/1.2 to f/32....

Samyang has posted a teaser to its Facebook page suggesting that they have a couple of new astrophotography lenses on the way. One will be for full-frame and the other for APS-C cameras. Exactly what they’ll be as far as focal length and maximum aperture is unknown, but with a teaser being posted now, we probably won’t have long to wait to find out. There are also no hints as to whether or not these will be manual or autofocus lenses, but what we can see from the design of the silhouette, they do have the appearance we’d typically associate with autofocus lenses, although a number of Samyang’s manual focus lenses have shown a similar look in the past and could be mistaken for autofocus lenses on first glance....

Google might have got a patent back in 2014, and then Sony in 2016, but scientists at the University of California San Diego have actually created a prototype contact lens that lets you “zoom” when you double-blink. Well, to be more accurate, it only functions when a specially made rig double blinks, but still, it’s a start. Gizmodo reports that the lens currently needs to be miniaturised before a human would really be able to use it, but it does demonstrate some interesting uses of existing technology that may make them viable for more users....

And in a further act of defiant predictability, they’ve posted them to Twitter. As well as the Sigma fp L camera itself, they also have photos of the strange-looking modular EVF-11 electronic viewfinder, which bolts onto the side of the camera instead of sitting on top....

Sirui has just added another member to its family of affordable anamorphic lenses. The Sirui 24mm f/2.8 1.33x is now out, and unlike many other anamorphic lenses, it won’t hurt your wallet too much. It’s currently available for $750, but you need to hurry up if you want to get it at this price. The company previously launched 50mm f/1.8 1.33x and 35mm f/1.8 1.33x anamorphic lenses, both at very tempting prices....

Chinese camera accessories manufacturer SIRUI revealed a 50mm f/1.8 1.33x anamorphic lens at this year’s IFA trade show in Berlin. Many of you hoped for a cheap anamorphic lens, and indeed – it will be one of the most affordable ones in the market. It’s coming soon in three mounts, and it will retail at around 700 euros ($770). Folks at cinema5D got to take a look at the upcoming 50mm f/1....

SmugMug has acquired the popular photography podcast, This Week in Photo – otherwise known as TWiP. It’s the second acquisition by the company after picking up Flickr in 2018. As well as acquiring the podcast itself, TWiP Editor in Chief Frederick Van Johnson is also joining SmugMug. He will lead content and new media while maintaining his role with TWiP to help it continue to grow and evolve. SmugMug+Flickr VP of Marketing, Scott Kinzie says that “It’s an ideal match”, with both companies and TWiP having the goal of increasing the influence and impact of photography worldwide....
