Good news for Sony shooting team will make portrait photographers especially happy: Sony has announced two new prime lenses for their full frame mirrorless cameras. One is Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS, and the other is Sony FE 85mm f/1.8. In addition, they have also announced a new wireless radio flash, Sony HVL-F45RM. Sony has announced the launch of its new Cinema Line – a series of cameras for what Sony describes as “a wide range of content creators”, which will kick off with the full-frame Sony FX6 – successor to the popular Sony FS5 Mark II – due to go on sale before the end of 2020. Well, sort of, it’ll be the first brand new camera in the new Cinema Line....

Sony has released Software Version 3.0 which brings a few interesting features to the a7R III and the a7 III. First, the previously announced real-time Animal Eye AF is now available. Next, Sony added the interval shooting for timelapse. And last but not least, the Real-time eye AF performance has been enhanced in the latest firmware update. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em. At least, that seems to be the sentiment offered by Sony as it announces a new range of pro CFast memory cards. It’s a surprising move, given that CFast competes directly with XQD; A format that Sony had a hand in developing along with SanDisk (who don’t make XQD cards) and Nikon. The new “G Series” memory cards are aimed at meeting the needs of demanding photographers and videographers....

Sony’s decision to go with a hotshoe design that no other camera system in the world supports has meant that Sony shooters have typically been limited to using Sony’s own expensive flash units, or going with some array of adapters that may or may not allow them all the functionality they need out of their flash units. A short while ago, we mentioned that Godox, along with a few other gear announcements, had planned to remedy this situation by adding Sony capabilities to their X1 trigger system....

After releasing a few images of what is reported to be Canon’s next mirrorless offering, Nokishita have released a few more images of the EOS M50, along with a pretty extensive set of specs, too. Overall, it doesn’t look too bad. 10fps shooting, ISO 100-25600, 4K video, CC-Raw, and “Pupil detection AF” which sounds an awful lot like eye-tracking. The Canon EOS M50, of course, hasn’t even been acknowledged publicly yet....

You’ll have to forgive this post coming just a couple of hours before Panasonic is set to announce the shiny new GH6 but with the gear lust I’ve seen in Micro Four Thirds groups lately, it actually seems like some pretty fortuitous timing. Photographer Mitchell Kanashkevich just posted a video about gear and how it doesn’t matter. And, yes, we’ve all heard that before, “the best camera is the one that’s with you”, etc....

Syrp has announced their new Genie Micro. Unlike other devices that bear the Genie name, this one isn’t a pan head or slider motor. In fact, it’s not motorised at all. It’s actually a smart remote device for controlling your camera with your smartphone using the Syrp app. With it, you get an array of triggering options, including bulb ramping, stop motion and HDR bracketing. Unlike a lot of triggering devices out there, this one doesn’t just tell your camera when to fire, but actually communicates with your camera over USB to adjust settings – as if you were shooting tethered to a computer....

His son, Michael, now lives in the home with wife Jeanne. He talks about some of his father’s lesser known commercial work as well as his teaching. With their usual fanfare, Tamron today announced a new 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD lens for full frame cameras. Available in Nikon F and Canon EF mounts, Tamron says that the goal with this lens was to produce something that offers “easy portability” while retaining “superb image quality”. Covering 17-35mm focal lengths, it’s a pretty common range for photographers to sit, especially for any kind of landscapes or street photography. Specifically mentioning genres like landscape, the variable aperture likely won’t put too many people off buying this lens, especially with a $599 price tag....

Well, there’s not much that we didn’t already know about the specs of these two lenses, thanks to a pretty much total leak of everything a couple of weeks ago, but Tamron has now officially announced their new 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD and 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 full-frame zoom lenses for Sony E mount cameras. Described by Tamron as a “travel zoom”, the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 is the first Sony E mount zoom lens that maxes out at an f/2 aperture....

Techart announced its initial Leica M to Sony E mount adapter way back at the beginning of 2016. Now, almost seven years later, they’ve announced the new Techart LM-EA9, the second generation of their Leica M to Sony E autofocus adapter. It comes with a sleeker design and features four built-in small, lightweight servo motors that offer more power and faster autofocus operation than its predecessor. This motor-driven adapter means that you can use all those old Leica M manual focus lenses on your Sony E mount cameras with full autofocus capability....

Earlier this year, firmware update brought Sony-like Eye AF to Canon EOS R. But is it really harder, better, faster, stronger than before? There have been rumours about the DJI Mavic Mini for a little while now and at least one of them appears to have been correct. DJI has today officially announced the new DJI Mavic Mini, a 249g gimbal that shoots 2.7K video from a camera mounted to a 3-axis gimbal and has a flight time of up to 30 minutes. The DJI Mavic Mini appears to essentially be a DJI Spark successor....
