Photography accessories company Moment is confirming their presence in the camera bag market by launching another travel camera backpack. This time around they have paired up with travel photographer Emmett Sparling to create the 35L Day Chaser Backpack. Sparling says that he spent 5 years travelling with every type of camera bag possible, and was increasingly frustrated by the options available. They were either traditional bags that locked you into a pre-set configuration, and often didn’t protect your gear very well....

As it would take too long to go over everything I do to prep on one article, I will focus on one of the key elements, mood boards! Now without any hard evidence to back me up, I’m pretty sure that the old master painters used to mood board in their own way. They would do a moodboard with sketches of various parts, and use it as a reference when they painted the piece as a whole....

A woman from Pennsylvania was recently accused of using deepfake videos to harass teenage girls and their families. She reportedly used their images and sent them to the girls’ cheerleading coach. And why would she do that? So that she would try and get her daughter’s “rivals” get kicked off the team. Raffaela Spone allegedly faked photos of the Victory Vipers team members, showing them “naked, drinking and smoking,” the BBC writes....

The Independence Day is just around the corner in the US, and it means we’ll get to see (and shoot) lots of epic fireworks. But they can hardly be as epic as the one NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope recently captured. It started exploding 170 years ago and it’s still continuing, and NASA calls it “the galaxy’s biggest ongoing stellar fireworks.” The image shows a doomed super-massive star, called Eta Carinae, which resides 7,500 light-years away from us....

Australian millionaire Matthew Lepre is looking for someone to follow him around the world and take photos for his Instagram. You don’t even have to drag your gear around, your smartphone will do. And you can even bring a friend. Lepre posted the offer to his Instagram account in a form of a marketing ploy that’s been pretty popular lately....

One of the big draws of Lightroom for many users is its ability to use presets. And there are a million of them out there. Free and paid Lightroom preset packs are everywhere you look these days. But there are very few available for Capture One. It’s those purchased presets that put a lot of photographers off switching away from Lightroom. They don’t want to feel they’ve wasted their money by no longer using them....

Sony Alpha Rumours just spotted a patent (although they didn’t link to it so we can all have a read) showing a new “light field” lens for the Sony E Mount. Sony teamed up with the folks at Light (of Light L16 fame) just over a year ago with a deal that, at the time, appeared to primarily focus on Light’s multi-camera technology in smartphones. It seems that this technology might be also coming to Sony mirrorless bodies, though, thanks to a new lens design....

We haven’t heard anything about replacement models for the two-year-old Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras in a couple of months, but now there’s been an update to the rumoured specs for upcoming Nikon Z6s and Z7s models. By all reports so far, the Z6s and Z7s will only be incremental updates over the Z6 and Z7, just as the D4s was over the D4 and the D300s was over the D300, but they will offer a few significant upgrades for professional users....

Just as Sony hits the “world’s fastest” mark with their new SF-G Series UHS-II cards, the SD Association comes along and moves the goalposts. Well, this card is almost at the theoretical 312MB/sec limit of the UHS-II specification. The SD Card Association have now announced the new UHS-III specification, which doubles this limit to 624MB/sec. With cards ever expanding in size due to the demands of today’s gear, the speed has to also increase....

Nikon have today announced the successor to their entry level Nikon D5500. That comes in the form of the not surprisingly named D5600. While the two don’t differ greatly, there are a couple of significant changes. The first being that Bluetooth has been added. This brings the D5x00 range in line with Nikon’s new SnapBridge protocol and their new WiFi workflow. Also added are the slightly more advanced timelapse features included on bodies like the Nikon D7200....

You may love or hate the features of the new Nikon Z7, but it seems that many photographers want to get their hands on it as soon as possible. As a result, the company has received so many preorders, that it recently issued an apology to customers that the camera is selling so fast. Because of so many preorders, many photographers won’t be able to get their camera on 27 September, when it was supposed to start shipping....

This is a little strange and surprising. Nikon appears to be making their own memory cards now. Or, at least, they’re rebranding somebody else’s if not making them themselves. A new listing has shown up on the Nikon website for a Nikon 120GB XQD card. It’s listed as coming at some point during September 2018. It’s a little bit odd, really, to see Nikon’s name on a memory card. It’s just not something we typically see, except with Sony – who were already making various memory cards for other devices before they even bought Minolta and got into photography....

There’s been quite a lot of discussion regarding Nikon’s new Z mount ever since the patent was first spotted. Nikon, too, has made quite the fuss over it in the recent Nikon Z6 & Z7 mirrorless camera announcements. Now, it seems that we have Atsushi Suzuki, an actual Nikon optical engineer, to explain it to us. So, why did Nikon introduce a new mount for their mirrorless cameras? Well, in the video, Atsushi goes into quite some technical detail....

According to serial leakers, who are usually fairly right, Nokishita, Nikon is planning to “make some announcements” about the Nikon D6 DSLR, successor to the current flagship Nikon D5. In a post made to Twitter, Nokishita says that the announcements will come on September 4th. Yes, that’s right, next Wednesday. https://twitter.com/nokishita_c/status/1167304807557652480 The translated Tweet reads… It’s unclear exactly what Nikon will announce, nor what necessitates “some announcements” rather than “an announcement”....

If you’re a dog person who’s into photography and video games, Nintendo Switch has introduced a perfect game for you. It’s called Pupperazzi, and yes, it’s just as it sounds: it’s all about taking photos of dogs. It hardly gets better than that. Advertisements “Who will photograph, pet, and tell these dogs they’re good boys and girls if you don’t?” the game publishers wonder in the announcement. The game lets you photograph and catalogue all kinds of dogs to build your career, upgrade your camera, and discover new canines as the game progresses....

Here is an argument that may shut the race for new gear. President’s Trump’s official portrait was taken with a Canon 1Ds Mark III. Now, it’s a great camera, but it’s also almost a decade into the market. It was announced in august, 2007. President Obama’s portrait, on the other hand, was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II. (Obama was also the first president to have his portrait taken with a digital camera – and we owe that to Pete Souza)....

Well, kicking off the OM System with a camera named the Olympus OM-1 on the 50th anniversary of the original Olympus OM-1 doesn’t seem like such a bad marketing idea. And that’s exactly what OM Digital Solutions has done today with the announcement of the OM System “Olympus” OM-1 Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera. It’s the first camera release since Olympus came under the new ownership of OM Digital Solutions, but it seems a little underwhelming....

Canon has issued a global security advisory relating to Canon digital cameras which feature the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) communication system. It’s a pretty long list of 32 cameras, including popular DSLRs like the 5D Mark III, 5D Mark IV, 6D and 6D Mark II, as well as their full-frame mirrorless cameras, the EOS R and EOS RP. The vulnerability was discovered by Check Point Software Technologies, Ltd. They used information from the Magic Lantern forums in order to open up the firmware and uncover the flaws....

Paul C. Buff lighting company, producers of such lights as the Einstein, AlienBees and DigiBee lighting products, has announced a new strobe called the Celestial. What makes this light special? Well, in the grand scheme of things, not much. But in the Buff lineup, it means they’ve finally got a small portable strobe that supports High Speed Sync and TTL flash metering – only a decade behind the competition. It’s a 500Ws strobe with a light output that Buff says is “similar to the 640Ws Einstein” strobe, with a 12-stop brightness range....

Pentax users seem to have been neglected when it comes to the world of flash. There’s been very little 3rd party support at all. Pretty much their only option, if they want TTL or High-Speed Sync is to go the Cactus route if they don’t want to go with Pentax branded speedlights. Ok, you could go with Metz, but your options become even more limited with those if you want to combine it with strobes....
